Lessons learned from accidental asshattery

Herbstravaganza took me into Felwood today, where I ran across two Alliance, one from a rival guild. They were both a bit lower than Ahami, but still green, so I attacked.

And then realized they were in the middle of an escort quest and felt like a total ass.

So I stopped attacking, spun around in circles for a second, then ghost wolfed to run off, and the mage froze me down. And then I panicked and got to less than a quarter health before I healed myself quick, downed a mana pot, and killed everything in sight.

And then I felt like even more of an ass.

Lessons learned:

1. Don't panic. Panic will get your ass kicked or lead to overreaction.

2. Be aware of the situation and your surroundings before jumping in. Had I looked around first, I'd have seen them doing the escort quest and would not have attacked, because people who attack during escort quests are among the lowest life forms in WoW. Also, they totally could have had a pocket 70 somewhere, and I would never have known.

Dude. Release your guilt. You have avenged me!!!! I remember being a lowly level 20-something Hordie trying to do that stupid Northwatch Hold escort quest and a random level ?? Draenei (who can spell that anyway?) watched me, stalked me, while I fought off pirates and tried to solo the quest. She sat on her broomstick watching me. I /waved. I /kissed. And then 30 seconds later she one-shotted me, just as I was clearing the pirate area.

FEEL NO GUILT.

Heh, this is a point.

It's not that I never attack lowbies — heck, the number of times I've helped attack Southshore with "red = dead" on my mind alone would put a price on my head if WoW was real. I mostly just felt bad because they were on an escort quest, and those are a pain in the ass anyway, and I really do try not to attack people much lower level than me unless I'm attacking a town.

On the other hand, the next day a 70 mage in Brutal gear one-shotted my shaman at the towers in Hellfire Peninsula. So I guess I got my karma back.
